Emirates SkyCargo announced as ATL’s 11th cargo carrier

EmiratesAt an event celebrating Hartsfield-Jackson’s cargo community, Airport officials announced March 27 that Emirates SkyCargo will begin service to Atlanta on April 6. Initially, Emirates will operate a Boeing 777 freighter flight weekly between Atlanta and Dubai. The new service is expected to have up to a $6 million annual economic impact on metro Atlanta.

“Emirates is now the 11th cargo carrier with service to Atlanta,” said Hartsfield-Jackson Interim General Manager Miguel Southwell at the sixth annual Air Cargo Appreciation Day, held at ATL’s North Cargo Facility “By forging new partnerships — such as today’s announcement with Emirates — we are moving forward in becoming one of the world’s premier logistical hubs.”

In addition, several carriers took away top honors. This year’s winners were:

  • Lufthansa Cargo, All-Cargo Airline of the Year 
  • Delta Air Lines, Passenger/Cargo Airline of the Year
  • Kuehne & Nagel, Freight Forwarder of the Year 
  • J&P Hall Express, Trucking Company of the Year

“Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport is a major asset for us in recruiting and growing companies, and we are pleased to partner with the airport to recognize the air cargo community,” said Jorge Fernandez, vice president of global commerce for the Metro Atlanta Chamber.

Many of the cargo specialists doing business at ATL had booths promoting their services, including Atlanta-based UPS, Land Air Express, CLT, CNS, Special Service, Forward Air, and Silk Way, as well as the cargo divisions of such air carriers as Southwest Airlines, Qatar Airways, Turkish Airlines and British Airways.
